DevOps Engineer II

Role Overview

DevOps Engineer II at MatWorks (99% remote, full-time). You’ll own and evolve the infrastructure that supports the software development lifecycle, focusing on CI/CD automation, Azure cloud operations, and Kubernetes reliability.

Responsibilities

• CI/CD Pipeline Development: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps for automated build, test, and deployment.
• Version Control: Manage repositories using Git/GitHub, promoting effective branching and code review practices.
• Cloud Infrastructure Management: Configure, deploy, and manage Azure resources with an emphasis on availability, security, and scalability.
• Kubernetes Operations: Deploy, operate, scale, and troubleshoot containerized applications on Kubernetes, including incident recovery.
• Infrastructure as Code: Use Terraform to define infrastructure declaratively and apply GitOps practices to keep deployed state aligned with version control.
• Monitoring and Logging: Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting to detect issues before users are impacted.
• Security: Apply platform security best practices including secrets management, access control, vulnerability assessment, and patching.
• Automation: Identify and eliminate manual toil by scripting and tooling to improve team throughput.
• Collaboration: Work with development teams to support smooth and reliable path-to-production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience).
• Proven DevOps experience with strong CI/CD fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with Git and GitHub (repository management, branching, code reviews).
• Strong experience with GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps for pipeline creation and management.
• Practical experience managing Azure cloud services and infrastructure.
• Genuine hands-on Kubernetes experience (deploying, operating, scaling, troubleshooting real workloads).
• Experience defining infrastructure with Terraform.
• Strong Linux administration skills, including shell scripting.
• Excellent problem-solving and cross-system troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with GitOps workflows for Kubernetes.
• Observability familiarity with tools such as Datadog and Application Insights.
• Knowledge of microservices and containerization best practices.
• Comfort with modern AI-assisted development tooling.
• Experience with AWS or GCP.
