About the role
Role Overview
The Consultant DevOps Engineer oversees configuration management and DevOps automation frameworks to support software development and deployment. The role focuses on building automation solutions, maintaining system integrity, improving CI/CD and deployment workflows, and leading documentation and training for internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain automation solutions for configuration management efficiency.
- Evaluate existing systems, applications, and testing tools; propose replacements or improvements.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks for deployment, testing, and configuration management.
- Apply industry best practices and assess emerging technologies to improve configuration management workflows.
- Ensure compliance with change control processes across development and production environments.
- Manage repositories and version control practices; maintain automated deployment strategies.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for automation scripts, tools, and workflows.
- Train developers and IT teams on new automation tools, configurations, and best practices.
- Monitor system performance and identify optimization opportunities.
- Collaborate with development, DevOps, and IT teams to ensure smooth releases and integrations.
- Enforce security standards and best practices in automation and configuration management.
- Act as a technical consultant for automation strategy, software upgrades, and technology investments.
Requirements / Technical Skills
- Configuration Management & Automation: Experience with tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, or SaltStack.
- Hands-on experience integrating automation into development pipelines.
- Experience with source code repositories such as Git and tools like Azure DevOps / TFS.
- Automation Scripting Languages: Python, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript.
- CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure Pipelines.
- Infrastructure/System Admin: Experience with Windows/Linux environments and server configurations.
- Knowledge of cloud/hybrid cloud automation integration.
- Security and compliance understanding in configuration management.
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with application testing frameworks and strategies for automated testing workflows.
- Ability to assess automation tools and propose new technologies for process improvement.
