DevOps Engineer — AWS and GitHub

Role Overview

Real Chemistry is hiring a DevOps Engineer (AWS & GitHub) to own the infrastructure path that takes applications from AI-assisted prototypes into Real Chemistry-managed AWS staging and production environments. You will build and operate GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines, AWS infrastructure, and observability tooling that help turn governance frameworks into executable workflows for client-facing products.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain AWS reference architectures using: ECS/Fargate, EKS, Lambda, RDS, and S3.
• Develop and operate GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines including:
  • Staged deployment workflows
  • Environment protection rules
  • OIDC-based authentication to AWS
• Manage infrastructure with Terraform, including:
  • Remote state backends
  • Module versioning
  • Drift detection
• Create and operate environments that increase in pipeline complexity and security requirements as deployments progress (peer review + deployment controls).
• Define and maintain “lift patterns” to transition apps from prototype environments to AWS-hosted staging/production.
• Provision and manage AWS infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, databases, backups) and lead HA/DR design for production.
• Operate an observability stack (metrics, logs, traces, alerting) using AWS-native and integrated tooling.
• Implement cost governance practices:
  • Tagging strategies
  • Cost monitoring with Cost Explorer and Budgets
• Partner with Information Security on pipeline integrated controls (e.g., image scanning, secrets management, IAM-aware pipelines).
• Support developer onboarding (on-call/office hours) for production promotion.
• Maintain runbooks and incident response playbooks and participate in an on-call rotation.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years operating production workloads in AWS.
• Strong Terraform experience (IaC lifecycle, state management, modules).
• Experience designing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Working knowledge of:
  • AWS IAM and least-privilege access
  • OIDC federation between GitHub and AWS
• Experience supporting SLAs, incident response, and on-call operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ECS/Fargate, EKS, or AWS Lambda.
• Exposure to FinOps and AWS cost governance.
• Experience productionizing AI-assisted or low-code applications.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (Replit, Cursor, Claude Code).
