About the role

Role overview

Actalent is hiring a DevOps Engineer for a fully remote permanent role (based out of St. Louis, MO). You will design and operate cloud-native infrastructure focused on AWS, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, with a mix of hands-on engineering and leadership/mentoring.

Responsibilities

Design and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS
Maintain and optimize Kubernetes environments (scalability and reliability), preferably EKS
Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitOps practices
Ensure secure software delivery and overall system reliability
Collaborate with a small, dynamic ~8-person team (DevOps, software engineering, QA)
Mentor and provide leadership to a junior DevOps engineer (about 20% of the role)

Requirements

6+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering
AWS proficiency (Azure or GCP is a plus)
Strong Kubernetes experience (preferably Amazon EKS)
Helm and Kubernetes autoscaling experience
Docker/containerization (image creation and lifecycle management)
Container registry experience, e.g. Amazon ECR
GitOps experience using FluxCD
GitLab CI/CD pipeline experience
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK
Knowledge of AWS account management, IAM, and cloud security
Understanding of cloud and hybrid networking fundamentals

Nice to have

Python and infrastructure automation tools like Terraform and Ansible
Familiarity with lab equipment and VPNs

Work setup & pay

Remote: 100% remote
Split: 80% hands-on (AWS/Kubernetes/CI-CD), 20% leadership/mentoring
Compensation: $69.00–$79.00/hr (hourly range)
