Developer (Part-Time) - Remote Roie

Role Overview

Part-time Developer (Remote) for building and integrating web applications, including GIS functionality and REST APIs. Work across frontend, backend, databases, and deployment with a modular architecture approach.

Responsibilities

• Develop web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks and clean modular architecture
• Implement GIS integration using ArcGIS APIs for JavaScript and work with ArcGIS Server feature/map services
• Build and consume RESTful APIs with JSON-based data exchange
• Handle spatial data visualization, including spatial layers and overlay rendering (e.g., zoning, wildfire, eligibility)
• Implement authentication and API security (OAuth, token-based systems)
• Design and optimize database interactions, including spatial database handling and query optimization
• Support data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and data transformation, validation, and cleansing
• Participate in DevOps practices: Git-based version control, CI/CD, and optional containerization
• Use unit, integration, and regression testing; debug and monitor performance
• Apply secure coding, access control, and performance tuning across frontend, backend, and database

Requirements

• Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or Data Engineering/GIS (development focus)
• Frontend: JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3; modern framework (React / Angular / Vue)
• Backend: one of Node.js / .NET / Java / Python depending on the chosen stack
• GIS: experience integrating ArcGIS APIs for JavaScript and working with feature/map services
• Databases: PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle, or similar; spatial query optimization experience
• REST API design/development with JSON exchange
• OAuth/token-based API authentication

Nice to Have

• Azure/AWS cloud experience (Azure/AWS preferred)
• CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions
• Docker (optional)
• Unit/integration testing frameworks such as Jest/Mocha/NUnit
• Relevant certifications: Microsoft/AWS/Azure Developer, ArcGIS Developer Certification (preferred)
