Design Technologist

Role Overview

As a Design Technologist (Staff) at Mondo, you will design and prototype AI-powered experiences for news and information needs. You’ll help shape how AI technologies are used across the company’s products, combining journalism, design, and technology to deliver high-quality, accessible user experiences.

Responsibilities

• Create high-fidelity, clear, realistic prototypes of new AI-powered experiences
• Use live generative AI APIs to test and assess AI applications in product workflows
• Collaborate with engineers on how AI infrastructure/services are consumed by client apps
• Guide product strategy and concept development, focusing on the most important problems and solutions
• Produce UX artifacts covering editorial and consumer scenarios
• Lead cross-functional conversations and help drive decisions with leadership
• Contribute to design standards and systems
• Represent your team’s work to company leadership
• Improve team/product design rituals and processes (including critique and learning)
• Provide leadership and support to more junior design team members

Requirements

• 7+ years as a design technologist or UX engineer, including coded prototypes for native apps using datasets
• 7+ years interaction design and prototyping experience; portfolio demonstrating care for micro-interactions, motion, and accessibility
• 7+ years working with user research and data analysis to inform UX/product decisions
• Experience building UIs that integrate with LLMs
• Experience refining AI tone, format, and behavior to align with brand and product goals
• Experience in 0-to-1 environments where requirements change frequently
