About the role

Role Overview

Design System Designer to evolve Mayflower’s design system across product and engineering. The role combines systems thinking with hands-on design of reusable UI components, ensuring consistency between Figma, frontend implementation, and Storybook.

Responsibilities

Evolve and maintain the UI foundation in Figma, Storybook, and code
Design and refine core design system components (e.g., inputs, buttons, form elements, patterns)
Refine and extend a scalable token architecture (primitive → semantic → component) with theming
Improve alignment between Figma and frontend implementation via Storybook
Strengthen the design-to-code workflow using:
- Figma Variables
- Tokens Studio
- Style Dictionary
- CI/CD pipelines
Support migration to a token-based component structure (starting with the most impactful areas)
Define and maintain contribution guidelines and standards for design and engineering teams
Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing
Explore AI-assisted workflows for structured, machine-readable design system practices

Requirements

4+ years experience in design systems, design engineering, or related roles
Strong Figma expertise (Variables, Auto Layout, Component Properties, shared libraries)
Understanding of frontend development and collaboration (e.g., CSS custom properties, SCSS, basic JavaScript)
Hands-on Storybook experience (writing stories, documenting states/variants)
Familiarity with token tooling (Style Dictionary, Tokens Studio, or equivalent)
Strong systems thinking (patterns, dependencies, long-term implications)
Pragmatic mindset focused on maintainable solutions teams can adopt
