About the role

Role Overview

Design System Designer to evolve Mayflower’s design system across product and engineering. The role combines systems thinking with hands-on design of reusable UI components, ensuring consistency between Figma, frontend implementation, and Storybook.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve and maintain the UI foundation in Figma, Storybook, and code
  • Design and refine core design system components (e.g., inputs, buttons, form elements, patterns)
  • Refine and extend a scalable token architecture (primitive → semantic → component) with theming
  • Improve alignment between Figma and frontend implementation via Storybook
  • Strengthen the design-to-code workflow using:
    • Figma Variables
    • Tokens Studio
    • Style Dictionary
    • CI/CD pipelines
  • Support migration to a token-based component structure (starting with the most impactful areas)
  • Define and maintain contribution guidelines and standards for design and engineering teams
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing
  • Explore AI-assisted workflows for structured, machine-readable design system practices

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience in design systems, design engineering, or related roles
  • Strong Figma expertise (Variables, Auto Layout, Component Properties, shared libraries)
  • Understanding of frontend development and collaboration (e.g., CSS custom properties, SCSS, basic JavaScript)
  • Hands-on Storybook experience (writing stories, documenting states/variants)
  • Familiarity with token tooling (Style Dictionary, Tokens Studio, or equivalent)
  • Strong systems thinking (patterns, dependencies, long-term implications)
  • Pragmatic mindset focused on maintainable solutions teams can adopt

Nice-to-haves / Fit

  • Think in systems, patterns, and trade-offs
  • Comfortable deciding when to extend vs. introduce new components
  • Enjoy cross-functional collaboration with designers and engineers
  • Strong focus on clarity, consistency, and usability of the design system

Conditions

  • Full remote work
  • Service contract with competitive compensation
  • Twice-yearly performance reviews with bonus opportunities and salary adjustments
  • Annual allowance for home office, sports, equipment, etc.
  • Paid language courses, learning platforms access, and mindfulness benefit
