About the role

Role Overview

As a Design Manager at Switch, you will coordinate and drive design execution across hyperscale data center projects. You will serve as the central coordination point between internal engineering teams, external design consultants, permitting authorities, and construction partners to ensure design packages are complete, compliant, and ready for construction on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Support project kickoff and ongoing design coordination meetings.
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, permits, and design milestones across the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate internal teams, external consultants, and stakeholders to resolve design issues and changes.
  • Conduct site visits and perform quality control reviews of design deliverables.
  • Provide weekly status reports to leadership (schedule, RFI/submittal, and change updates).
  • Support permitting processes, including plan submissions, cost forecasting, and AHJ coordination.
  • Set up and manage project documentation systems for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary design decisions and escalate issues when required.
  • Contribute to refining design and construction best practices.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting hyperscale or large-scale data center design and construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of design development, permitting, and implementation processes.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Skills to track and report on schedule, cost, and quality metrics.
  • Experience working with AHJs and managing permitting workflows.
  • Proficiency with construction management tools and document control systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Experience directly managing design consultants.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure systems and mission-critical environments.
