About the role

Role Overview

As a Design Manager at Switch, you coordinate and drive design execution across hyperscale data center projects. You oversee design consultant performance, manage design milestones, and ensure deliverables are complete, compliant, and ready for construction.

Responsibilities

  • Support project kickoff and ongoing design coordination meetings.
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, permits, and design milestones across the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate internal engineering teams, external design consultants, stakeholders, and partners to resolve design issues and changes.
  • Conduct site visits and perform quality control reviews of design deliverables.
  • Provide weekly status reports to leadership (schedule, RFI, submittal, change updates).
  • Support permitting processes, including plan submissions, cost forecasting, and coordination with AHJs.
  • Set up and manage project documentation systems for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary design decisions and escalate issues when needed.
  • Ensure consistent communication on schedule, cost, and quality performance.
  • Contribute to development of design and construction best practices.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting hyperscale or large-scale data center design and construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of design development, permitting, and implementation processes.
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to track and report schedule, cost, and quality metrics.
  • Experience working with AHJs and managing permitting workflows.
  • Proficiency with construction management tools and document control systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management (or related field).
  • Experience managing design consultants directly.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure systems and mission-critical environments.
