Role overview

As a Design Manager at Switch, you will coordinate and drive design execution across hyperscale data center projects. You serve as the central hub connecting internal engineering teams, external design consultants, permitting authorities, and construction partners—ensuring design packages are complete, compliant, and ready to move into construction without delay.

Responsibilities

  • Support project kickoffs and lead ongoing design coordination meetings.
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, permits, and design milestones across the full project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate internal teams, external consultants, and stakeholders to resolve design issues and changes.
  • Conduct site visits and perform quality control reviews of design deliverables.
  • Provide weekly status reports to leadership (schedule, RFI/submittal, and change updates).
  • Support the permitting process (plan submissions, cost forecasting, and coordination with AHJs).
  • Set up and manage project documentation systems for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary design decisions and escalate issues when required.
  • Ensure consistent communication across schedule, cost, and quality performance.
  • Contribute to development and refinement of design and construction best practices.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting hyperscale or large-scale data center design and construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of design development, permitting, and implementation processes.
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to track and report schedule, cost, and quality metrics.
  • Experience working with AHJs and managing permitting workflows.
  • Proficiency with construction management tools and document control systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Experience managing design consultants directly.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure systems and mission-critical environments.
