Design Manager - Remote

Role Overview

The Design Manager oversees the design process for capital expenditure projects across CoreSite’s existing data center facilities nationwide. The position focuses on interior retrofit and improvement work in operational, occupied environments, coordinating internal teams and external partners to minimize customer disruption while maintaining design quality.

Responsibilities

• Manage interior retrofit and improvement design processes across existing data centers in the U.S.
• Coordinate design timelines, deliverables, scope changes, and budgets under the Vice President of Development & Design
• Support project kickoff meetings; define needs, constraints, and goals with internal stakeholders
• Develop and monitor design and permitting budgets and schedules; track variances and report regularly
• Facilitate design review meetings, ensure accurate documentation, and assign clear action items
• Ensure owner-furnished equipment is specified and integrated into the design
• Coordinate and oversee design consultants to ensure compliance with requirements
• Provide support during acquisitions via pre-purchase due diligence (e.g., design reviews and building assessments)
• Stay current with emerging trends and technologies relevant to retrofit/upgrade scenarios

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in design management or construction with focus on existing building retrofit/renovation/tenant improvements (data center experience preferred)
• Proven experience managing projects across multiple geographies/jurisdictions simultaneously
• Strong knowledge of building permitting requirements for interior modifications and remodels
• Experience managing retrofit/renovation projects in operational, occupied environments
• Solid understanding of building systems, code compliance, and space planning
• Proficient with project management tools, budgeting, and program implementation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present to multiple organizational levels
• Ability to travel up to 20% across the U.S.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with at least two onsite days per week
