About the role

Role overview

Design Engineer (remote) at USB Club. You’ll help design and build product experiences for a cultural, creator-focused network—supporting product roadmap, research/strategy, and production-grade shipping across web and desktop/mobile.

Responsibilities

  • Product roadmapping, research & strategy for how the USB network can evolve (read-only/entry modes, privilege-based access, artist content & sales, and cloud-backup use cases).
  • Product & web design for the platform experience, including poster/campaign/message concepts that reinforce culture around the network.
  • Engineering ownership: ship production-grade features with limited hand-holding.
  • Integrations & platform expansion, including knowledge graph/metadata access patterns (e.g., are.na and similar platforms).
  • Build and iterate the next chapter of USB Club based on a mix of vision and execution.

Tech & product context

  • macOS desktop app: Electron
  • iOS app: native iOS
  • Website: Vue (with likely move to Next.js)
  • API: TypeScript with PostgresQL
  • Dashboards: Retool
  • Integrations: Typeform, Airtable

Compensation & schedule

  • Hourly compensation: $40–$75/hr (rate discussed based on seniority and ability).
  • Expected ~20–25 hours/week for the next 2–3 months, with potential to grow toward full-time.

Requirements / what you should be like

  • A multifaceted design engineer who can both design and code.
  • Strong understanding of cultural, design, artist, music, and research spaces.
  • Ability to confidently ship production-grade features.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working across product roadmapping + engineering.
  • Familiarity building cultural/community-facing messaging and campaign content.

Application

Submit a thoughtful application including relevant links to verify your work experience and identity (select “USB Club Design Engineer”).
