About the role
Role overview
Design Engineer (remote) at USB Club. You’ll help design and build product experiences for a cultural, creator-focused network—supporting product roadmap, research/strategy, and production-grade shipping across web and desktop/mobile.
Responsibilities
- Product roadmapping, research & strategy for how the USB network can evolve (read-only/entry modes, privilege-based access, artist content & sales, and cloud-backup use cases).
- Product & web design for the platform experience, including poster/campaign/message concepts that reinforce culture around the network.
- Engineering ownership: ship production-grade features with limited hand-holding.
- Integrations & platform expansion, including knowledge graph/metadata access patterns (e.g., are.na and similar platforms).
- Build and iterate the next chapter of USB Club based on a mix of vision and execution.
Tech & product context
- macOS desktop app: Electron
- iOS app: native iOS
- Website: Vue (with likely move to Next.js)
- API: TypeScript with PostgresQL
- Dashboards: Retool
- Integrations: Typeform, Airtable
Compensation & schedule
- Hourly compensation: $40–$75/hr (rate discussed based on seniority and ability).
- Expected ~20–25 hours/week for the next 2–3 months, with potential to grow toward full-time.
Requirements / what you should be like
- A multifaceted design engineer who can both design and code.
- Strong understanding of cultural, design, artist, music, and research spaces.
- Ability to confidently ship production-grade features.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working across product roadmapping + engineering.
- Familiarity building cultural/community-facing messaging and campaign content.
