Design Engineer 2 - Specialist- Virtual, US

Role Overview

Design Engineer 2 (Electronic Security) in Diversified’s Electronic Security Solutions (ESS) Project Engineering team. You’ll support the design and delivery of electronic security systems across the project lifecycle—from early concept to construction documentation and delivery support—across access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection.

Responsibilities

• Support the design of electronic security systems (access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection)
• Develop system concepts, specifications, and requirements aligned to client needs and project scope
• Create Bills of Materials (BOMs), estimates, and proposal/project documentation
• Produce design deliverables including 30% / 60% / 90% / IFC drawings
• Provide technical coordination for system architecture, installation, and integration activities
• Research, evaluate, and recommend security technologies and product solutions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, engineering, and project delivery)
• Support client engagement: clarify requirements and manage expectations
• Maintain project documentation and ensure alignment with design standards
• Guide junior team members and assist with issue resolution across projects
• Stay current on ESS technologies, trends, and best practices through training

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in technical systems design
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM, and MS Office 365
• Ability to obtain a US-based Government-issued Top Secret Clearance
• Clear understanding of project phases (program, conceptual design, design development, construction documentation, commissioning)
• Strong understanding of construction processes, installation practices, and system integration

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree (required) and/or equivalent experience; Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• Certifications/training with Milestone and Lenel (preferred)
• Certifications/training with Genetec, Avigilon, and S2 (preferred)
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, strong time management
• Excellent communication and problem-solving (technical troubleshooting and issue analysis)

Work & Logistics

• Primarily office or remote work; occasional construction site exposure
• Occasional travel by car and air; driver’s license required in state of residence
• Travel/mileage reimbursed per company policy
