About the role

Role Overview

Design Director, Provider Experience (US)

Lead the design vision for an AI-enabled mental health provider platform, shaping end-to-end workflows across complex clinical and administrative tasks. You’ll be a player-coach: provide hands-on design leadership while also managing and mentoring a design team.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the provider EHR experience design vision across:
    • scheduling
    • clinical documentation
    • telehealth
    • billing
    • patient engagement
  • Embed AI-first principles into core product interactions and AI-powered workflows.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing design team; set craft standards and establish effective operating models for complex, high-stakes areas.
  • Own key strategic initiatives as a hands-on player-coach, directly shaping critical AI features.
  • Ensure end-to-end coherence across provider and patient experiences, aligning marketplace, onboarding, and care delivery flows.
  • Prototype and iterate rapidly using modern AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, MagicPatterns) and translate concepts into testable experiences.
  • Partner with engineering to guide productization decisions.
  • Conduct user research by engaging with providers to validate assumptions and ensure real-world usability and impact.
  • Evolve the design system and team practices by sharing AI-driven workflows, patterns, and standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years leading design teams on complex B2B SaaS platforms with strong consumer-grade UX expectations.
  • Experience scaling design teams and establishing strong operating models in high-growth or mature product environments.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional leadership: influence product and engineering strategy through systems thinking and design vision.
  • Experience designing AI-native or AI-augmented products, understanding how AI reshapes workflows.
  • Ability to balance leadership with hands-on execution in a player-coach capacity.
  • Portfolio showing both high-quality individual contributions and scalable design systems/frameworks.
  • Strong communication and decision-making in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Not explicitly stated.
