About the role

Role overview

Join Finom to own the reliability of its banking database infrastructure. You’ll be the ultimate reliability owner for PostgreSQL, driving high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), scalability, performance, observability, and security—while partnering with engineering and leading by example.

Key missions

Assure database reliability by leading HA and disaster recovery strategies.
Define and execute the scalability roadmap (including partitioning and sharding strategies).
Optimize database performance through deep query analysis and proactive remediation of bottlenecks.

Responsibilities

Design and operate infrastructure for PostgreSQL reliability.
Establish observability and monitoring/alerting for database health and performance.
Champion security practices for databases and secrets/credentials management.
Ensure performance and reliability through advanced PostgreSQL tuning and internals knowledge.
Communicate architectural trade-offs to engineers and stakeholders.
Lead with autonomy and take full ownership of the database landscape.

Requirements

5+ years as a PostgreSQL DBA in high-load, production environments (preferably fintech or mission-critical systems).
Deep PostgreSQL expertise: internals (MVCC, WAL, vacuum, etc.) and advanced index design (B-tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN).
Strong SQL skills (complex queries, stored procedures, functions).
HA/DR mastery: streaming replication, clustering, and automated backup validation.
Observability: experience building monitoring and alerting for databases (Prometheus/Grafana).
Security and reliability mindset: data integrity and availability are non-negotiable for fintech.
Automation: Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD workflows (GitLab, ArgoCD).
Cloud fluency: hands-on experience with cloud-managed PostgreSQL, specifically GCP, plus Linux administration.
Fluent English.

Nice-to-haves

Compliance experience with frameworks such as PCI DSS or GDPR.
Experience with connection pooling tools beyond PgBouncer.
Multi-stack data experience: Redis, BigQuery, and/or others (Cassandra, ClickHouse).
Advanced secrets and credential management practices.

Location / work mode

Full remote (Warsaw, PL referenced).
