About the role

Role Overview

As a Data Solutions Engineer at GovWell, you will execute customer data migrations and GIS onboarding, ensuring data quality and correctness end-to-end. You’ll act as the primary technical point of contact during onboarding, working with government teams and internal departments to improve onboarding processes and provide feedback for platform and process improvements.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

Execute customer data migrations & GIS onboarding end-to-end
- Work with government staff to understand source systems
- Configure mappings and ingestion settings
- Run validations and dry-runs to ensure accurate loading into GovWell
Own onboarding data quality and correctness
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and edge cases in legacy data
- Make documented judgment calls within defined constraints
- Prevent bad/unsafe data from entering production
Be the primary technical point of contact during onboarding
- Lead customer calls
- Explain data requirements and tradeoffs clearly
- Guide agencies through the transition from legacy systems

Profile / Requirements

Execution-oriented and reliable: own migrations end-to-end, communicate proactively, deliver on deadlines
Strong data quality & validation instincts: identify risky issues early and prevent incorrect data from reaching production
2–3+ years hands-on experience in data solutions, data migrations, ETL/onboarding, technical implementations, or a related role with real-world messy data
Experience working with customer-provided data, including:
- Interpreting poorly documented schemas
- Resolving inconsistencies
- Making tradeoffs to deliver usable outcomes
Comfortable interfacing with non-technical stakeholders, translating technical constraints and tradeoffs in plain language
Process-driven and disciplined: follow playbooks, avoid one-off solutions, improve repeatability as GovWell scales
Strong SQL proficiency for data validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting
