Data Scientist (Risk and Trading, Daily Fantasy Sports)

Role Overview

As a Data Scientist (Risk and Trading, Daily Fantasy Sports) at Sleeper, you will support the risk and trading function by analyzing data, building predictive models, and helping monitor real-time odds. You’ll develop user and market risk profiles and help automate risk/trading processes to scale across users, sports, and markets.

Key Missions & Responsibilities

• Risk & liability management: Conduct data analysis and modeling to support Sleeper’s DFS risk and liability needs.
• Predictive modeling: Build predictive models and algorithms to understand and forecast Sleeper’s real-time liability and risk exposure.
• Automation & scaling: Automate risk and trading processes to scale with growth in users, sports, and markets across game operations.

Requirements

• Strong DFS/sports betting expertise, including player props, handicapping, expected value (EV), and closing line value (CLV).
• Experience working with high volumes of real-money DFS/sports betting (e.g., as a trader, +EV bettor, and/or oddsmaker).
• Comfort with large datasets and analyzing complex data.
• Background in data science, computer science, machine learning, mathematics/statistics, or a related field.
• Experience with player performance metrics, game outcome predictions, in-game event modeling, and real-time sports data feeds/APIs.
• Ability to work off-hours (nights and weekends) to align with the sports calendar.
• Technical skills: SQL and Python (or closely related tooling); familiarity with databases/data warehouses, data visualization, and report building.
