Role overview

Reuters is hiring a Data Scientist to build AI products for Reuters News. You will create machine learning, deep learning, and AI models, with a strong focus on data preparation, testing, and model/evaluation metrics, supporting both news technology initiatives and newsroom strategy.

Responsibilities

• Work with a collaborative team closely with the CTO on AI and non-AI software products powering Reuters’ global newsrooms.
• Build news solutions that help Reuters use video, photo, and text multimedia for fast, real-time news delivery.
• Gather, prepare, and label datasets, and train analytical/ML models.
• Apply analytics to support how audiences use and consume news.
• Evaluate systems using performance metrics to inform strategy across business units.
• Partner with editorial and technology stakeholders to understand pain points and define technical solutions.
• Maintain high-quality, robust, maintainable code and contribute to automation and monitoring efforts.

Requirements

• Demonstrable Python experience with strong software engineering practices (e.g., code reusability, modularity, use of repos).
• Applied experience in Machine Learning / Deep Learning (including Computer Vision).
• Expertise across ML/AI tasks such as feature engineering, image processing, NLP, or model training.
• Knowledge of recent machine learning frameworks.
• Experience building and maintaining maintainable production-quality code.
• Experience with automation, system monitoring, and cloud-native applications, with familiarity in AWS or Azure.
• Ability to work with large datasets (preparation, labeling, analysis).
• Comfort with Agile practices.
• Ability to give web presentations on investigations/work.

Nice to have

• Experience specifically applying ML/AI to news/media workflows and multimedia content.
