About the role
Role: Data Scientist (Remote)
Support U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the Washington DC area, working remotely from the National Capital Region (DMV).
Responsibilities
- Apply expert knowledge in statistical analysis, data mining, and AI/ML to derive value from complex data.
- Provide consulting on data mining and analytics across multiple data sources, turning raw data into actionable insights.
- Design and implement data-driven solutions including advanced analytical methods, data models, and data visualizations.
- Build quantitative simulations and predictive/descriptive models to recommend analytics solutions.
- Identify trends and problems through big data analysis.
- Stay current with emerging tools and techniques in machine learning, statistical modeling, and analytics.
Requirements
- 6+ years of relevant experience in applied research, big data analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, computer science, operations research, or closely related quantitative disciplines.
- 3+ years of direct experience in machine learning.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant quantitative field (Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, or closely related).
- A PhD may substitute for up to 3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data mining methods, databases, data visualization, and machine learning.
- Ability to communicate analytics approaches, concepts, and deliverables.
- Ability to develop data-driven solutions, models, and visualizations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Qlik for embedding visualizations into webpages.
- Familiarity with Databricks (or similar cloud/distributed database technologies).
- Comfort with PySpark and Python.
- Ability to write complex SQL queries for ETL (extract/transform/load).
Clearance & Location
- Must be located in the DMV (National Capital Region).
- Clearance required: a TS or CBP BI or DHS suitability clearance, adjudicated within the past 4 years.
- Government contractor role; US Citizenship is required (per posting).
