Role Overview

Data Scientist | Member of Technical Staff (Frontier AI) — Remote (United States). Full-time position focused on owning AI research and evaluation initiatives end-to-end, from problem framing through data quality calibration and signal validation.

Responsibilities

• Own research and evaluation initiatives end-to-end (problem framing, data design, quality calibration, signal validation).
• Design machine-learning-oriented data systems, including:
  • task definitions
  • annotation schemas and rubrics
  • incentives
  • pipelines optimized for downstream model performance
• Analyze model/system failures to find root causes, edge cases, and improvement opportunities.
• Convert ambiguous real-world behaviors into structured evaluation frameworks and new data categories.
• Rapidly iterate on evaluations, datasets, and feedback loops to improve system performance.
• Partner cross-functionally to translate research progress into clear, credible, evidence-based narratives.

Requirements

• Strong judgment on research signal quality and readiness to externalize.
• Experience designing ML-oriented datasets, evaluation frameworks, and quality assurance processes.
• Ability to translate messy, real-world system behavior into structured research and evaluation opportunities.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity; ownership mindset with decisive action.
• Strong written and verbal communication, including explaining tradeoffs and limitations to stakeholders.
