Data Scientist I and II (GCP & AI Engineer)

Role overview

Early-career Data Scientist I / GCP & AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy data science solutions that deliver measurable business value. You’ll work hands-on with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), focusing on feature preparation, deployment workflows, and Generative AI exploration.

Responsibilities

• Foundational modeling: Build predictive and descriptive analytics on structured and unstructured data (classification, regression, clustering, hypothesis testing).
• Data preparation & feature engineering: Clean, curate, and transform raw data using SQL and Python to create high-quality training/evaluation datasets.
• Data retrieval & manipulation: Write efficient SQL and Python to extract and explore data in BigQuery and Cloud Storage (GCS).
• Business intelligence: Create dashboards and visualizations in Looker / Looker Studio to communicate metrics and insights.
• MLOps & version control: Participate in code reviews, use Git, and apply foundational CI/CD and MLOps practices (e.g., model tracking) for deployment.
• GenAI exploration: Explore GenAI concepts and foundational models using Vertex AI Generative AI Studio to identify business use cases.
• Collaboration & domain growth: Partner with business/IT stakeholders to translate operational questions into analytical insights and grow expertise in FedEx data systems.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience: 0–3 years (internships, academic projects, and co-ops valued).
• Core skills: Strong communication, eagerness to learn, and proactive collaborative problem-solving.
• Technical skills:
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Foundational ML knowledge (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, or PyTorch)
  • GCP analytics experience (implied through BigQuery, GCS, Vertex AI)

Nice-to-haves

• Strong interest in Generative AI and building integration/deployment workflows using GCP services.
