About the role
Role overview
Dropbox is hiring a Data Scientist (Virtual First) to partner with Product, Engineering, and Design to answer key questions about revenue growth, product optimization, scaling, and monetization. The role uses applied analytics and user behavior insights to drive high-impact initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of customer journey phases and core business metrics
- Conduct analytical deep-dives to:
- frame hypotheses
- design and execute experiments
- perform exploratory analysis to derive insights on user engagement
- Inform experimentation design and product/business roadmaps
- Build personalized segmentation using propensity models to target offers and experiences
- Identify trends and build automated reporting and executive-facing dashboards for acquisition, monetization, and engagement
- Analyze large, complex, multi-dimensional customer behavior datasets to extract actionable insights
- Monitor and improve a high volume of experiments (including multivariate experiments)
- Translate complex findings into business implications via strong communication
- Work cross-functionally with Data Science, Marketing, Product, Engineering, Design, User Research, and senior executives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or above in a quantitative field (Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related)
- 3–5 years using analytics to drive business/product/marketing decisions (or similar)
- Ability to work independently and proactively with business stakeholders
- Strong SQL skills and experience with large unstructured datasets (e.g., Hadoop)
- Deep knowledge of statistical analysis and experimentation design (e.g., regression, decision trees)
- Experience running multivariate experiments to optimize product or revenue
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Programming/scripting proficiency; R or Python knowledge is a plus
Preferred qualifications
- Product analytics experience in a SaaS company
- Master’s or above in a quantitative discipline
Compensation & location
- Hiring in US Zone 2 and Zone 3 (Zone 1 not available)
- US Zone 2: $149,200–$201,800 USD (expected annual salary/OTE)
- US Zone 3: $132,600–$179,400 USD (expected annual salary/OTE)
- OTE reflects annual compensation; Dropbox also provides additional total rewards (bonus/incentives and RSUs).
