About the role
Role
Data Scientist (Remote, anywhere in the Continental US). You will build and deploy data science solutions that improve public service delivery, operational transparency, and provide actionable insights for agencies.
Day-to-Day Impact
- Improve predictive models for processing timelines and generate personalized status updates for end users
- Develop and deploy models for new service areas aligned to agency priorities
- Expand intelligent help agent capabilities via integration with external data sources and applications
- Perform data cleaning/scrubbing to ensure unstructured data is accurate, appropriate, and safe for public-facing use
- Analyze customer signals (including biometric or behavioral) to identify reliable identity verification indicators
- Design and maintain ETL pipelines to move from transactional systems to citizen-centric data models
- Communicate results via visualizations, reports, and dashboards for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Collaborate with policy, engineering, and operations teams to meet mission goals and regulatory requirements
- Support data governance, ethical AI, and responsible data use in government settings
- Contribute to Agile workflows and continuous delivery of data science capabilities
Requirements (Essential)
- 3+ years experience in data science, analytics, or applied machine learning
- Proficiency in Python for analysis, modeling, and pipelines (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy)
- Strong experience with structured and unstructured data, including cleaning and feature engineering
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases; familiarity with ETL
- Strong understanding of predictive modeling and statistical methods
- Ability to handle sensitive data securely and in a compliant manner
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with Agile / iterative development
Nice to Have (Kudos)
- Experience with federal government datasets/projects
- Familiarity with chatbots, intelligent agents, or API integration
- Exposure to biometric data or identity verification systems
- Cloud experience in secure environments with AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks and responsible AI
- Security clearance (preferred)
