About the role

Role Overview

As a Data Scientist on The College Board’s Data Science team, you’ll collaborate with stakeholders to apply machine learning to improve processes and support a new digital testing platform. You’ll develop models, build production-ready software and data pipelines, and help leadership make strategic decisions with actionable insights.

Responsibilities

Machine Learning Applications (40%)

  • Develop machine learning applications and build high-quality software using modern cloud and ML technologies
  • Independently deliver small/medium applications and analyses with strong quality and on-time execution
  • Help design major components of complex ML models
  • Evaluate model effectiveness and fairness, and communicate implementation considerations in a business context
  • Build functions, APIs, and data stores to make predictions and analyses usable by other systems

Data Engineering, Exploration & Analysis (40%)

  • Design and maintain scalable data pipelines to transform operational data into production-ready datasets
  • Create insights from existing data and help drive new data collection
  • Communicate analysis results using accessible language and intuitive data visualizations
  • Produce reproducible, documented analyses and models suitable for automation

Team Operations & Success (20%)

  • Break work into manageable tasks and support the team’s Agile maturity
  • Improve productivity and quality via better tools, processes, and code structure
  • Advise other teams on ML projects and help establish ML governance
  • Help identify and resolve production issues

Requirements

  • Master’s in a quantitative discipline or computer science, or Bachelor’s with 3–4 years related experience, or 5+ years related experience
  • Strong programming expertise in Python and familiarity with pandas
  • Experience with data and statistical analysis
  • Proven experience building Machine Learning and Deep Learning solutions for real-world problems
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Creative problem-solving mindset
  • Excellent communication and listening skills; able to explain problems and solutions using data
  • Experience working in a close-knit team and helping colleagues succeed

Nice-to-Haves

  • Knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile
  • Experience developing serverless applications
