Data Scientist

Role Overview

As a Data Scientist at Borrowell, you’ll collaborate with multiple teams to analyze member behavior, evaluate experiments, and build recommendation systems and predictive models. You’ll have end-to-end ownership of projects and work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and choose the right solutions.

Key Missions

• Deliver measurable business impact by owning 1–2 end-to-end data science projects, from problem framing and analysis through implementation, measurement, and iteration.
• Apply analytics, experimentation, and machine learning to solve business problems—choosing simpler solutions when appropriate.
• Contribute to personalization and recommendation systems, improving how products and experiences are matched to members across the marketplace and member lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders to translate business problems into data science approaches.
• Build and evaluate predictive models, including feature engineering and validation.
• Design and analyze experiments, including A/B testing.
• Communicate insights, recommendations, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• Strong Python and SQL skills.
• 2+ years applying data science/analytics/ML to real business problems.
• Experience building and evaluating predictive models, including handling class imbalance, leakage, and data quality issues.
• Experience with experimentation and A/B testing.
• Ability to clarify ambiguous business questions, identify needed data, and recommend a practical path forward.
• Comfort owning work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Experience with Looker or other BI tools for analysis and stakeholder reporting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
