Data Scientist - Algorithms, Community Support

Role Overview

Airbnb is looking for a Data Scientist (Algorithms, Community Support) to build LLM/ML-powered solutions for the Community Support (CS) team. You’ll work with engineers, product managers, designers, and operations agents to enable personalized, fair, and exceptional guest and host experiences.

Responsibilities

• Automate LLM evaluation using advanced techniques with high efficiency and quality.
• Curate and scale synthetic datasets across CS domains for training and evaluation.
• Build LLM/ML models to understand customer issues from diverse datasets and identify failure modes and improvement opportunities.
• Develop personalization models to deliver differentiated experiences and maximize business impact.
• Translate business needs into scientific formulations and run data exploration and model prototyping.
• Analyze structured and unstructured data to produce actionable insights.
• Build and deploy production LLM/ML models that support data-driven product launches.
• Partner cross-functionally (Product, Design, Engineering, Operations, Analytics) and communicate learnings to influence stakeholder decisions.
• Contribute to scaling and evolving data science capabilities within the domain.

Requirements

• 2+ years of relevant industry experience (e.g., data/ML scientist, tech lead, junior faculty).
• Master’s or PhD in a relevant field.
• State-of-the-art knowledge of AI/ML models.
• Strong fluency in Python/R and SQL.
• Ability to communicate effectively across different technical levels.
• Strong project management, collaboration, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Product-oriented mindset with strong understanding of user experience.

Nice to Have

• Causal inference / observation causal inference skills.

Location / Work Style

• US - Remote Eligible, with occasional Airbnb office work or offsite attendance.
