Data Scientist, AI

Role Overview

Lead AI-powered decision-making by building, testing, validating, and deploying machine learning and GenAI models within American Modern Insurance Group’s centralized Data Science team. Work closely with senior data scientists and ML engineers to deliver predictive modeling solutions that support multiple business domains.

Responsibilities

• Build and deploy AI/ML models with general guidance.
• Act as a liaison between Data Science and ML Engineers, managing AI/ML model deployment, testing, and integration.
• Test models to ensure efficacy and compliance before deployment; monitor models post-deployment and adjust as needed.
• Collaborate on modeling presentations; present results and topics to stakeholders and management (internal and external).
• Tackle loosely defined problems using creative analytical approaches.
• Deliver actionable insights to improve customer satisfaction, policy growth, retention, and profitability.
• Perform required data preparation with guidance:
  • Data input
  • Identify data anomalies and recommend necessary adjustments
  • Detect data/operational issues requiring specialized analytics
  • Apply data scrubbing and appropriate modeling techniques
• Document and communicate assumptions, results, and alternatives; maintain modeling best practices.
• Explain advanced analytics/modeling procedures to non-technical audiences and translate stakeholder needs into solutions.
• Participate in technical peer reviews; maintain organization and professional communication.

Required Technical Skills

• Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R, Python, SAS, or similar, plus general programming and SQL knowledge.
• Experience building and deploying statistical/ML models to solve business problems.
• Strong data wrangling and data quality capabilities (evaluation, transformation, and cleaning).
• Experience with AI/ML model testing, validation, deployment, and CI/CD pipeline integration.
• Familiarity with tools such as MLflow for experimentation and model registration.
• Git for version control (and general software collaboration).
