Role overview

The Data Science Analyst at Mayo Clinic performs detailed analysis of large, heterogeneous data to discover patterns and insights that impact patient health. The role applies AI/ML and data science methods, often partnering with internal clinical and technical stakeholders and external companies.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze large bodies of structured and unstructured data to generate insights for business and clinical problems
  • Apply and modify scripts/software to support:
    • data management
    • data extraction
    • data analysis
    • AI/analytics solutions
  • Develop predictive models using techniques such as:
    • statistical modeling and regression
    • machine learning and data mining
    • operations research
  • Collaborate with knowledge architects, informaticians, clinicians, and external partners to build and deploy AI/analytics solutions for nontechnical users (often at the point of care)
  • Interpret results and contribute to writing reports
  • Present findings in clear, easy-to-understand terms for business/clinical practice
  • Help stakeholders understand datasets and provide training and improvement suggestions
  • Provide consultative services and/or support scientific projects under guidance of a senior data scientist

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant quantitative/analytical field (e.g., engineering, mathematics, computer science, health science)
  • Minimum 3 years of professional or research experience in data science
  • Demonstrated ability to develop predictive models using advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, or data mining
  • Strong understanding of data science methods and challenges across data types and scientific topics

Nice-to-haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field and at least 1 year of professional/research experience
  • Experience providing consultative services to departments/divisions and committees
