Data Platform Engineer (Starburst/Trino) - (Remote)

Role Overview

Data Platform Engineer to design, build, and secure a distributed data platform using Starburst/Trino. The position supports scalable, governed, high-performance data access across multiple enterprise data sources, working closely with product and data consumers.

• Contract: 9-month contract (extensions likely)
• Schedule: 40 hours/week (4-day, 10-hour shifts)
• Work mode: Remote (US)
• Employment type: W-2 (Stage 4 Solutions)

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain a data platform with Starburst/Trino as the core query engine
• Enable secure, performant data access across multiple sources (object storage, relational DBs, streaming systems, etc.)
• Implement and manage infrastructure as code for data and platform services
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for platform deployments
• Apply DevSecOps best practices
• Optimize query performance, cost, and reliability across distributed environments
• Partner with governance and security teams to ensure compliance and data trust
• Support and evolve a platform enabling self-service and data analytics (PPM Unified Data Exchange / UDE)

Requirements

• US Citizen
• 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering and/or DevSecOps
• 4+ years with Starburst Enterprise / Trino / Presto
• Strong Linux scripting and proficiency in at least one programming language (Python or similar)
• Experience implementing data security, access controls, and governance at scale
• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
• Bachelor’s degree

Preferred

• Red Hat 8 administration and Ansible
• Experience with Iceberg, Hive, or similar table formats
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform (or similar IaC tools)
• Strong understanding of distributed query engines and data architectures
• Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, etc.)
