Data Engineer (Big Data)

As a Data Engineer on Resonate’s big data team, you will design, build, and maintain data pipelines that power the business. You’ll collaborate with senior engineers and product management to deliver scalable data solutions in a fast-growing, AI-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on the design, planning, and development of data engineering products and initiatives for the data engineering squad
• Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Spark and Scala on AWS EMR
• Build and optimize workflows that process terabyte-scale datasets in S3 and Snowflake
• Monitor pipeline health using Grafana and resolve data quality issues
• Write clean, testable code with unit and integration tests
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and sprint planning
• Support production operations, including on-call rotation and incident response

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields
• 3+ years with Spark/Scala DataFrame/Dataset APIs
• Proven experience debugging and problem-solving in the big data ecosystem
• Demonstrated ability to tune multi-terabyte/petabyte-scale Spark applications
• Prior relational database experience
• Strong knowledge of software architecture and engineering best practices for modern cloud-based big data stacks
• Experience with AWS (EMR, S3, Lambda), Spark, Scala, Kafka, Snowflake, Grafana, Hadoop, Elastic Stack, Docker
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle (exploration/design → delivery → production)
• Knowledge of solution architecture, technical design, data structures, and data modeling
• Experience leveraging generative AI tools to accelerate data engineering (pipeline development, monitoring, developer productivity)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with probabilistic data structures
