Data Engineer

Role Overview

As a Data Engineer at Protagona, you’ll join an engineering team delivering AWS cloud resources and data pipelines/APIs to meet client business needs. You’ll adapt quickly to evolving cloud technologies and proactively troubleshoot issues in cloud-based systems.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the team to evaluate business needs and priorities, and work with business partners on data systems and management requirements.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and define details/requirements for applications, components, and enhancements.
• Support project planning: define milestones, deliverables, resource needs, and track execution.
• Create design/development/test plans and detailed documentation (e.g., functional specs, process flow charts, UI/process design artifacts).
• Develop data pipelines and APIs using tools such as Python, SQL, Spark, and multiple AWS services.
• Build large-scale batch and real-time pipelines in AWS.
• Support migration from on-prem to cloud and perform cloud data conversions.

Requirements

• Experience in data engineering, especially data pipelines, analytics, and reporting.
• Exposure to AWS Cloud.
• Strong SQL, including data transformations and troubleshooting across at least one database platform (e.g., Redshift, RDS, Cassandra, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Databricks).
• Experience designing/building ETL/ELT pipelines using custom pipeline development.
• Scripting experience in Python.
• Experience designing/building solutions with AWS services such as: EC2, S3, EMR, Kinesis, RDS, Redshift/Spectrum, Lambda, Glue, Athena, API Gateway (and similar).

Nice to Have

• AWS Certification (Solutions Architect Pro or Data Specialty).
• Machine Learning experience.
• Advanced GenAI experience.

Compensation

• $115,000–$130,000 USD base salary annually, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus (final offer depends on experience, skills, and location).
