Data Engineer

Role overview

Mento is hiring its first Data Engineer to build the data infrastructure that powers insights and features across its coaching platform. You will own data pipelines and establish the data architecture foundation while working closely with product, engineering, coaching, and leadership teams.

Responsibilities

• Build data pipelines for coaching sessions, user analytics, and AI coaching outputs.
  • Process coaching session data, user interactions, and AI-generated outputs.
  • Power product analytics, coaching effectiveness metrics, and business intelligence dashboards.
• Create data systems that feed product features
  • User progress tracking, coaching insights, customer dashboards, and other data-driven capabilities.
• Establish scalable data infrastructure and architecture
  • Make key decisions on the data stack for orchestration, transformation, warehousing, and analytics.
  • Build foundations that can scale with the company.
• Process and analyze AI/LLM outputs
  • Build pipelines to analyze LLM responses, track coaching quality, and generate insights into user interactions with AI coaches.
• Support business operations and analytics
  • Customer success metrics, billing data, user engagement, and operational KPIs to inform product and business strategy.
• Build accessible analytics infrastructure
  • Dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Emphasize data quality, documentation, and usability.
• Partner with product on instrumentation and data collection
  • Define events and metrics, instrument new features, and ensure the right data is collected.

Requirements

• Mid to senior-level experience with data engineering; able to work independently and make architectural decisions.
• Strong data engineering fundamentals.
• Proficiency with SQL and Python and experience building data pipelines.
• Solid understanding of data modeling and ETL/ELT patterns.
• Experience with PostgreSQL.
• Comfortable making choices around data infrastructure tools.

Bonus / Nice to have

• Comfort with Go, especially for building alongside a backend stack that includes Ruby and Go (new development preferentially in Go).
