Role Overview

Data Engineer Intern (Remote) at ezCater (Data Engineering team within the broader Data Technology organization).

You’ll be embedded on a real project and help build and maintain production data models and pipelines used for data-informed business decisions.

Internship dates: June 1, 2026 – August 14, 2026

What You’ll Do

Answer data questions from stakeholders across Engineering, Marketing, Business, Data Science, and Analytics with clear updates and escalation when needed.
Take on well-scoped data modeling tasks in the warehouse:
- Update or add dbt models and tests
- Write clear documentation for models
- Open PRs with thoughtful descriptions and quality checks
Support data platform health by working with the on-call engineer:
- Monitor job runs and alerts
- Triage issues and execute playbooks
- Remediate common failures (e.g., retries, backfills, simple config fixes) under guidance
Proactively monitor pipelines (e.g., Airflow DAGs, dbt Cloud runs, AWS DMS replication tasks) and remediate common failures.
Improve data reliability:
- Respond to Monte Carlo observability alerts
- Validate anomalies and create/refine data quality tests
Partner with engineers to simplify and automate remediation; contribute small improvements that increase robustness and observability.
Document learning by updating runbooks/knowledge base articles and keeping tickets updated with status and outcomes.

What You Have

Proficiency in SQL and comfort working with large datasets.
Basic Python scripting is a plus.
Foundational understanding of data warehousing and ELT concepts.
Interest in data engineering best practices: version control, code review, and testing.
Familiarity with or eagerness to learn modern data stack tools such as:
- Snowflake, dbt Cloud, Airflow, AWS DMS, Monte Carlo, Hightouch
- Exposure to Kubernetes/Docker is a plus
Strong communication and collaboration: ask good questions, document work, and follow through.
Growth mindset: open to feedback, willing to debug unfamiliar systems, and comfortable with a defined on-call shadow/assist rotation.
Currently pursuing a degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Compensation

National hourly range: $38/hour – $45/hour (final offer depends on factors including experience, expertise, and region).
