Data Engineer II

Role Overview

Data Engineer II at InStride Health (fully remote, reporting to the Director of Data Engineering). Build and maintain scalable data infrastructure that supports clinical and operational decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, SQL, and frameworks/tools such as dbt, Matillion, and AWS services.
• Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting to ensure data integrity and reliability.
• Optimize pipelines for performance, cost-efficiency, and error handling.
• Contribute to data warehouse and data lake solutions, including schema design, data modeling, and indexing strategies in Amazon Redshift.
• Ensure data security and HIPAA compliance, including correct handling of PHI (protected health information).
• Partner with data analysts, data scientists, and business intelligence engineers to deliver high-quality, trusted data.
• Troubleshoot complex production data issues with urgency and root-cause rigor.
• Maintain clear documentation for models, pipelines, and data sources to enable self-service analytics.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions; stay current with emerging data technologies.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying data pipelines and production data warehouse solutions.
• Strong SQL and Python skills for data engineering and transformation.
• Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (Amazon Redshift preferred; Snowflake/BigQuery valued).
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools such as dbt and Matillion (or similar).
• Working knowledge of relevant AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift).
• Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA compliance and experience with regulated/sensitive data.

• Experience optimizing data systems for scalability, resiliency, and observability.
