Data Engineer

Role Overview

Direct Travel is seeking a Data Engineer to join its data team and build robust, scalable data pipelines that power analytics and business decision-making in the travel industry. This is a remote role focused on unifying data from booking, customer, pricing, and third-party sources.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest data from internal and external travel-related sources (e.g., GDSs, OTAs, CRM systems)
• Integrate data across platforms such as booking engines, mobile apps, customer service systems, and web analytics tools
• Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and product teams to deliver reliable datasets that meet business needs
• Develop and optimize data models and schemas in cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
• Implement data quality checks and monitoring to ensure accuracy and reliability
• Support real-time data streaming for dynamic pricing, inventory updates, and customer interactions
• Ensure data privacy, governance, and compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 4+ years of experience in data engineering or backend data development/integration
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language: Python, Java, or Scala
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Experience with modern data stacks such as Airflow, dbt, Kafka, and IDMC (as applicable)
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the travel or hospitality industry
• Familiarity with travel data formats/systems (e.g., PNRs, GDS, IATA standards)
• Exposure to predictive analytics, personalization, or recommender systems
• Understanding of API integrations with travel platforms and third-party services
