Data Engineer

Role Overview

Blue Orange Digital is seeking an experienced, hands-on Data Engineer to design, build, deploy, and optimize scalable data solutions and data flows, including data lakehouses/warehouses and production data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy robust data platforms (data lakehouses and warehouses)
• Automate operations using tools such as Azure DevOps, Terraform, and CloudFormation
• Build and optimize advanced ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestrate complex data jobs (e.g., Databricks notebooks, dbt)
• Design and maintain data models, potentially using data virtualization tools like Cube
• Use managed/serverless cloud offerings to build cloud-native data pipelines and solutions
• Apply data security best practices and support governance/compliance requirements
• Build high-performance pipelines and integrate with BI tools such as Tableau, Looker, and Power BI
• Provide leadership in software development best practices, including CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code
• Engage with customers/stakeholders to communicate technical concepts, design decisions, and progress

Requirements

• 5+ years hands-on experience in Data Engineering
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL (TypeScript/JavaScript/Java a plus)
• Proven ETL/ELT and data modeling experience for data warehouses/lakehouses
• Understanding of Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold)
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and Linux system administration
• Expertise with 2–3 major platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP, Snowflake, Databricks, Fabric)

Compensation & Benefits

• $135,000 – $155,000 USD yearly + performance bonuses
