About the role

Role Overview

Bridgeway is seeking a Data Engineer (BI) to design, develop, and maintain the data warehouse infrastructure and the semantic models, dashboards, and reporting built on top of it. You’ll partner with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, efficient data pipelines and self-service analytics across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain semantic data models, metrics layers, and certified datasets to provide a consistent “source of truth”.
  • Define, standardize, and govern KPIs, calculation logic, and a shared metric glossary.
  • Build and optimize dashboards/reports in Sigma (primary), with some Power BI and Databricks (including AI-BI Genie).
  • Establish and maintain Sigma workspace standards for development-to-tenant promotion (templates, certified datasets, RLS, naming/governance conventions).
  • Collaborate on data quality, testing, and observability; own triage and resolution of BI-layer/dashboard issues.
  • Drive BI adoption: train and support users, monitor usage, and identify underused/redundant assets for redesign, training, or deprecation.
  • Ensure data security and compliance, including role-based access controls, encryption, masking, and governance best practices.
  • Gather analytics requirements, define success measures, and translate them into technical specifications and well-structured data products.
  • Enable analytics and AI/ML use cases through business-friendly data models and integrations (e.g., Databricks Vector Search and Model Serving).
  • Operate in an Agile/Scrum environment with comprehensive technical design documentation.
  • Implement row-level security and Entra ID-based access controls for secure data access.

Requirements

  • 3+ years hands-on data engineering and/or business intelligence experience.
  • Experience with Databricks, including DAB and Materialized Views.
  • 3+ years designing semantic/dimensional data models and building dashboards/reports in a modern BI platform, including hands-on metrics/semantic layer experience.
  • 3+ years analytical SQL (ANSI SQL / T-SQL / Spark SQL) and Python for data engineering (pipelines, transformations, automation).
  • Azure DevOps experience; GitHub Copilot knowledge is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Plus: Experience with HIPAA-compliant datasets.

Location & Work Style

  • Remote position with occasional travel.
  • Preference for East Coast candidates.
