About the role
Role Overview
Data Engineer (100% Remote) — 1-year contract (4–5 openings). You will design, build, migrate, and optimize enterprise-grade database solutions on Google Cloud.
Responsibilities
- Architect & Implement: Design, deploy, and manage database platforms on Google Cloud managed and cloud-native services (e.g., Cloud SQL, Bigtable, Spanner, AlloyDB, Firestore).
- Data Migration: Lead complex homogeneous and heterogeneous migrations from on-prem and/or other clouds to Google Cloud.
- Performance Optimization: Diagnose and resolve advanced database performance issues (query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, connection pooling), and implement reliable backup/recovery.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design and validate replication, failover, multi-region DR, and point-in-time recovery (PITR) strategies.
- Collaboration: Partner with enterprise stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable database architectures.
- Security & Governance: Implement security protocols, encryption, and IAM access control aligned with regulations and Google Cloud best practices.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing Google Cloud database services, especially:
- Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL/SQL Server)
- Cloud Spanner for globally distributed transactional workloads
- Bigtable and AlloyDB for high-performance enterprise workloads
- Deep RDBMS expertise with PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server (including schema design and concurrency controls)
- Experience with enterprise migration patterns and tools, including Google Cloud Database Migration Service (DMS), Ora2Pg, and CDC-based pipelines for minimal-downtime migrations
- Strong performance engineering skills (execution plan deep dives, wait states, indexing, connection pooling)
- Experience designing HA/DR replication architectures and multi-region failover/PITR
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform and automation scripting using Python, Bash, or Go
- Ability to read/modify database connectivity code in languages like Java and Python, plus familiarity with build systems, ORMs, and DB libraries (e.g., JDBC/ODBC/Hibernate)
Nice to Have
- Professional Cloud Database Engineer certification
- Hybrid/multi-cloud experience (e.g., AWS/Azure to Google Cloud)
- Experience integrating databases with analytics/pipeline workflows (e.g., Dataflow, CDC)
Notes
- Immediate persona verification is required (upload an ID).
