About the role

Role Overview

Direct Travel is seeking a Data Analytics Engineer to help design, execute, and deliver a global analytics platform. You’ll build analytics products that provide actionable insights and reporting for internal stakeholders and global clients, including embedded analytics and self-service visualizations.

Responsibilities

  • Data management: Collect and process data across raw, unimproved data sources and data marts.
  • Reporting & visualization: Develop and implement visualizations, reports, modeling, and performance optimizations for core data products.
  • Collaboration: Partner with IT and business units to understand data requirements and deliver actionable solutions.
  • Process improvement: Identify trends/patterns in complex IT data to drive improvements and policy development.
  • Analytics & insights: Provide clear, concise industry insights derived from core travel data.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Technical proficiency: Advanced database knowledge (SQL/RDBMS and document stores).
  • Programming: Experience with Python, R, or Scala for analytics engineering work.
  • Web app & frontend: Understanding of web application development and reactive front-end applications (e.g., Vue.js or React).
  • Software lifecycle & SCM: Understanding of SDLC and source control (e.g., Git).
  • Cloud: Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and associated data platforms.
  • Analytics/data lifecycle: End-to-end understanding from pipeline development to warehouse architecture to reporting/enablement.
  • BI/analytics platforms: Senior experience with more than one of Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Semantic modeling: Experience building sustainable, high-performing semantic models.
  • Warehouse platforms: Exposure to Snowflake, Databricks, or Azure Data Lake.
  • Governance/compliance: Experience implementing governance and compliance frameworks for analytics data products.
  • Performance tuning: Diagnostic skills for query and system tuning.
  • Embedded data products: Experience building data products from the ground up integrating BI/analytics platforms for visuals and core functionality.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a data analytics engineer.
  • Snowflake, Looker, and LookML modeling experience.
