Customer Growth Applied Scientist

Role Overview

As a Customer Growth Applied Scientist at Thumbtack, you will develop and deploy AI models that drive profitable customer growth. You’ll analyze large-scale user data, build AI systems for production use, and ensure the reliability and performance of deployed models in a virtual-first environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead applied science initiatives from start to completion, ensuring strong business impact
• Build and deploy AI systems to production, including:
  • Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) models
  • Recommendation systems
• Analyze diverse datasets to support model development, balancing:
  • speed of execution
  • scientific rigor
• Own the reliability and performance of deployed models
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver technical and business outcomes

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in applied AI / data science, including deploying models to production
• Ability to navigate and execute complex, cross-functional projects
• Ability to drive technical, business-impactful roadmaps
• Strong coding ability in Python (read, write, and debug)
• Strong foundation in:
  • probability and statistics
  • experimental design
  • predictive modeling
  • optimization
  • causal inference
• Strong problem-solving skills with rigorous tradeoff analysis
• Clear communication with cross-functional partners of varying technical levels

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with agentic software engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex
