Role Overview

Join 9amHealth as the Controller and the first dedicated in-house accounting leader. You will own the full accounting function end-to-end and work closely with the CFO and Director of FP&A, including presenting to the board and managing external auditors and tax partners.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

• Own accounting end-to-end: chart of accounts (COA), accounting principles, month-end close, financial reporting, tax compliance, and audit readiness.
• Drive a fast, AI-assisted close covering: AR, AP, payroll, GL, accruals, reconciliations, and intercompany.
• Set close cadence and standards for monthly close quality and speed.
• Produce financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, ad-hoc) that becomes the trusted base for FP&A forecasts and the board narrative.
• Manage external relationships: coordinate with external auditors and tax firms.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years as Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Manager at a high-growth company.
• Experience with 409A and equity accounting, including owning an end-to-end 409A valuation cycle.
• Own ASC 718 stock comp accounting; working knowledge of Carta or an equivalent equity platform.
• Proven close and reporting automation experience.
• Familiarity with close automation tools such as FloQast, BlackLine, Numeric, or similar.
• Hands-on approach: comfortable working in the GL while also presenting to the board.
• Tax compliance experience across federal/state/local filings, including sales/use tax, R&D credits, multi-state nexus, and payroll tax.
• CPA strongly preferred (or equivalent technical accounting depth).
• Strong, crisp written communication and audit-ready documentation from the first draft.
• AI fluency: uses tools like Claude / ChatGPT for memos, variance summaries, research, and internal automation; understands AI/LLM upside and control implications.
• Big 4 audit foundation strongly preferred (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, or PwC).
• COA design experience: designed/rebuilt a chart of accounts and can defend decisions to auditors and FP&A.

Nice-to-Haves

• Healthcare/health tech context: subscription/membership revenue, pharmacy economics, value-based care, or multi-state regulated services.
• Hands-on ERP experience: Sage Intacct or NetSuite.
• Led technical accounting conclusions for ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 718.
• Experience leading an ERP migration/implementation.
• Experience scaling an accounting team through outsourced-to-insourced transition.
• Healthcare-specific revenue concepts (claims, capitation, value-based contracts).
• State/local nexus expertise in multi-state healthcare or e-commerce.
• M&A, carve-out, or fundraising-diligence experience.
