About the role
Role Overview
Contract Technical UI/UX Designer (Video Games) (United States, fully remote). You will design and implement immersive, player-facing in-game interfaces directly in the engine, bridging creative design and technical execution.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize in-game UI for a seamless player experience
- Build static and animated interfaces that communicate gameplay information clearly
- Implement UI designs directly in Unreal Engine, ensuring consistency in style, placement, functionality, and underlying data structures
- Ensure UI is readable, accessible, responsive, and optimized across platforms
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and artists to deliver polished UI aligned with creative direction and production timelines
- Iterate through testing, refinement, and quality improvements throughout development cycles
- Identify, implement, document, and promote UI Blueprint architecture best practices and workflows
- Balance performance, usability, accessibility, and visual quality while solving technical/design challenges
Requirements
- 3+ years experience in technical UI design for video games or similar interactive environments
- Strong proficiency with Unreal Engine and Blueprint scripting
- Experience creating complex real-time UI and implementing it in-engine
- Strong understanding of UI systems, engine technologies, optimization principles, and data structures
- Creative + technical problem solving with attention to usability, accessibility, and performance
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical/design challenges
- Comfort collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and iterating under production constraints
- Motion/UI animation familiarity and/or in-engine UI materials is a plus
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of motion design, UI animation, in-engine UI materials
- Programming experience such as C++ or C#
- Familiarity with game accessibility standards
- Experience with atmospheric/horror game environments
Compensation & Location
- Fully remote contract across the United States
- $44–$58 USD/hour (hourly rate varies by location/experience/qualifications)
