Consultancy for the Design and Production of Four Animated Videos Showcasing SUNCASA’s Achievements and Inspiring Youth Engagement in Sustaining Project Results

Role overview

IISD is seeking an experienced animator or animation studio to conceptualize, design, and produce a series of animated videos for the SUNCASA project. The animations will showcase nature-based solutions (NbS) impacts and highlight the role of local youth in sustaining project results, with a fourth video focused on gender equality and social inclusion (GESI).

Project context

• SUNCASA is a 3-year project supporting climate adaptation in sub-Saharan Africa across Dire Dawa (Ethiopia), Kigali (Rwanda), and Johannesburg (South Africa).
• The consultancy supports SUNCASA’s communications strategy as the project moves into its final implementation year.

Responsibilities

• Translate existing, co-created scripts into engaging visual narratives.
• Develop a distinctive, locally resonant visual style that is consistent across the full series.
• Create high-quality animations of approximately 2–2.5 minutes each (4 videos total).
• Produce supporting illustrations and animation assets, informed by provided reference materials (photos, videos, project documentation, brand assets).
• Integrate provided voiceover/dialogue recordings, including versions in local languages such as Amharic, Afaan Oromo, and Kinyarwanda.
• Work closely with the SUNCASA Communications team and representatives from local partner organizations.

Requirements

• Strong experience delivering end-to-end animation production (visual concept through final outputs).
• Ability to conceptualize character/environment design and storytelling aligned to social, cultural, and environmental contexts of each project location.
• Animations and supporting illustrations must be produced using Adobe Creative Cloud tools, specifically After Effects, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• Ability to develop animations primarily in English (with integration of local-language dialogue recordings).

Nice to have

• Proven experience creating animations intended for young audiences.
• Portfolio demonstrating visually consistent series production across multiple episodes/videos.
