About the role

Role overview

The Commodity Manager will develop, prioritize, and execute short- and long-term commodity strategies to reduce supply chain complexity and drive material productivity improvements. You will build and manage strategic supply bases for critical components while improving quality, delivery, cost, and inventory performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute commodity strategies to meet quality, delivery, cost, and inventory targets.
  • Identify and develop strategic supply bases for critical components and reduce overall supply-chain complexity.
  • Analyze market conditions and the geopolitical environment to mitigate supply chain risk.
  • Negotiate supplier agreements covering discounts, payment terms, shipping terms, stocking agreements, quality parameters, service requirements, and other relevant commercial terms.
  • Apply an 80/20 mindset to find opportunities to reduce product and supply base complexity.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to implement product complexity reduction and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the global supply base, using supply chain management tools to improve supplier performance and resolve supplier issues.
  • Support product teams by incorporating product roadmaps, market conditions, and new technologies into commodity plans.
  • Continually assess and evaluate new suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Viking Cedar Falls supply chain and production teams to ensure continuity of supply for critical components.
  • Work with global cross-functional teams to align resilience strategies with production planning, inventory management, and logistics to support I&OP/SIOP processes.
  • Implement digital tools/technologies to improve supply chain visibility, forecasting, and decision-making.
  • Lead development and execution of supply chain business continuity plans (BCPs) for disruptions (e.g., natural disasters, pandemics, supplier insolvencies).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related.
  • 5+ years commodity management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing supply chains in industrial and/or hygienic pump segments.
  • Ability to understand engineering/mechanical and technical concepts.

Preferred qualifications

  • APICS or CPM certificate.
  • Experience in iron/aluminum casting, metal fabrication, machining, electronics, and/or plastics.
  • Experience managing a global supply base.
  • Familiarity sourcing machined castings, forged parts, or machinery.
  • Experience with Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP).
