About the role
Role Overview
Cloud Security Engineer (GCP) – Risk Reduction for a 12-month contract supporting an enterprise-scale retail/digital commerce organization. The role is 100% remote (U.S.-based) and focuses on reducing cloud security risk through remediation, automation, and infrastructure-as-code.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute remediation plans for high-priority security findings across GCP, Azure, and AWS.
- Update and maintain Terraform repositories and automation scripts to remediate issues consistently across many cloud projects.
- Coordinate with infrastructure and engineering teams to rotate and properly manage misconfigured or exposed secrets.
- Identify and address root causes to prevent security issues from recurring.
- Validate that remediation actions were successfully implemented (directly or via partner teams).
- Navigate existing cloud architectures and repositories to understand risk context and anticipate impacts.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years writing automation pipelines and/or scripts for Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- 3+ years writing production-grade Terraform in complex environments (e.g., 100+ GCP projects).
- 5+ years overall cloud engineering experience with GCP.
- Strong proficiency in cloud engineering and automation, including Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD.
- Proficiency with on-prem and cloud networking, including SDN.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure components: compute, storage, databases, IAM, and networking.
- Ability to troubleshoot and remediate complex issues with minimal supervision.
- Experience working with large enterprise cloud architectures and code repositories.
- Strong communication skills and collaboration in Agile teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Azure and/or AWS.
- Familiarity with GitHub and/or Atlantis.
- Prior cloud-security-focused experience combining infrastructure and security disciplines.
Contract & Compensation
- Contract length: 12 months
- Compensation: $67.00–$112.00 per hour
