Cloud Engineer

Role overview

Accelerant is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer (remote, U.S., individual contributor) to design, implement, and manage secure, scalable, and highly resilient cloud infrastructure across Azure and AWS. You will set cloud technology direction, lead large end-to-end projects, and partner with engineering teams, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver cloud solutions supporting AI-driven platforms, containerized applications, and enterprise data workloads.

Key responsibilities

Cloud infrastructure & architecture

• Design, implement, and operate secure, scalable, resilient cloud infrastructure on Azure and AWS
• Define technology direction and drive end-to-end implementation across teams
• Collaborate with development, architects, and product teams on enterprise-scale solutions
• Configure and administer virtual networks, VMs, and web application hosting environments
• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for consistency and repeatability

Project leadership & cross-team execution

• Lead large, complex initiatives across diverse technologies and multiple cross-functional teams
• Create schedules, milestones, and priorities aligned to business objectives; execute with minimal supervision
• Drive projects from concept through delivery as an outcomes-focused technical lead
• Communicate status, risks, and decisions to stakeholders at all levels

Containers, microservices & Kubernetes

• Implement and operate container-based infrastructure and managed Kubernetes on AKS/EKS
  • Cluster lifecycle management, scaling, and capacity planning
• Architect and support microservices using Docker and Kubernetes (service decomposition, inter-service communication, API gateways)
• Manage container registries and image pipelines (e.g., ACR and ECR)
  • Vulnerability scanning, image versioning, and promotion workflows
• Support event-driven/workload-appropriate deployments with serverless container options (e.g., Azure Container Apps, AWS Fargate, Lambda container images)
• Enforce container security standards
  • Network policies, pod security, secrets management (Key Vault/Secrets Manager), runtime protection
• Integrate container workloads with cloud networking, load balancing, and ingress
  • Azure Application Gateway, AWS ALB/NLB
• Integrate with CI/CD for automated build/test/deploy to non-prod and prod

Requirements

• Strong cloud engineering depth with hands-on experience across Azure and AWS
• Proven ability to design and operate secure, scalable, resilient cloud infrastructure
• Experience leading complex projects end-to-end with minimal supervision
• Solid IaC experience with Terraform
• Experience operating Kubernetes (managed Kubernetes on AKS/EKS) and containerized workloads
