About the role
Role Overview
Koniag Data Solutions (KDS), a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Cloud Architect – Services to support ACF (Administration for Children and Families), a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The role is remote and requires the ability to obtain a Public Trust.
Responsibilities
- Design and architect end-to-end cloud-service and infrastructure solutions meeting requirements for performance, scalability, security, resilience, interoperability, and cost-efficiency.
- Develop cloud architecture standards: patterns, governance practices, and technical reference architectures across environments.
- Evaluate, select, and implement cloud services/platforms/technologies for mission-critical objectives and modernization.
- Collaborate with engineering, development, security, and operations teams to integrate cloud solutions with existing enterprise systems.
- Create and maintain architecture documentation, including diagrams, technical specifications, service designs, reference architectures, and decision records.
- Support continuous ATO and automated ATO processes by designing service patterns, automation, integrations, and evidence-producing controls.
- Ingest and normalize compliance data from sources such as FedRAMP, StateRAMP, SOC 2, and other approved providers to support assessment/authorization workflows.
- Contribute to Security Assessment & Verification/Validation Plans, including objectives, scope, dependencies, control-validation approaches, and roadmaps.
- Design architectures enabling AI-driven analytics and automation (where approved) to improve threat detection, operational response, and service management.
- Lead/support COOP, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning and evaluate solutions for continuity during disruptions.
- Participate in Red Team/Blue Team exercises, ensuring architectures support controlled testing and remediation.
- Support ESOC strategy and improvement efforts (current-state assessment, future-state architecture, roadmap development, recommendations).
- Perform cloud-readiness assessments and plan migrations from on-premises/legacy systems to cloud.
- Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for reliability and cost; implement automation and IaC where appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with federal security frameworks including FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-53, and FISMA.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and cloud practitioners.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust.
Nice-to-Haves / Implied Competencies
- Strong background in federal cloud security, compliance, and authorization (ATO).
- Experience with cloud modernization, resilience/DR, and security operations support.
- Familiarity with AI-driven analytics/automation in approved environments.
- Experience with Red/Blue Team style testing and continuous improvement loops.
