Cloud Architect

Role overview

Own and architect cloud-native solutions as a Cloud Architect at GDIT. You will help design secure, scalable, and resilient AWS environments that support modernization, automation, and mission continuity.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and optimize solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS), including serverless architectures and cloud-first migration/modernization patterns.
• Architect cloud-native systems using AWS services such as:
  • Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Step Functions, and AI/ML services (e.g., Bedrock, SageMaker, Amazon Q).
• Define architectures that emphasize automation, cost efficiency, and mission resilience.
• Provide strategic guidance for cloud adoption and modernization roadmaps.
• Build secure multi-account environments aligned to AWS Well-Architected and Zero Trust.
• Lead DevSecOps pipeline design and automation, integrating:
  • CI/CD, policy-as-code, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation), and automated testing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate mission requirements into robust technical solutions, ensuring security is integrated at every layer.
• Partner with governance to implement and document controls mapped to:
  • NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171 (including IAM best practices, data protection, encryption, and compliance)
  • FedRAMP, DoW (as applicable).
• Mentor engineering teams on cloud-native design patterns, AI/ML integration, and secure automation.
• Participate in proposal development to ensure solutions are innovative, compliant, and aligned with emerging government requirements.
• Evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI, container security, edge computing, automated governance) to enhance cloud strategy.

Requirements

• 15+ years total related experience; 8+ years specifically architecting cloud solutions.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional.
• Deep experience designing and deploying AWS solutions using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD.
• Ability to create/contribute technical materials for federal/state/local proposals and produce cloud architecture documentation.
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• US citizenship required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
• Location: Remote, with up to 25% travel for customer and proposal support.
• Education: BA/BS in Computer Science or similar field.
