About the role
Role Overview
The Chief of Staff for the COO (Chief Operating Officer) or CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) coordinates and oversees strategic initiatives across the enterprise. The role enables senior leaders to execute strategic work while ensuring operational needs are met, providing executive-level coordination, decision support, and leadership liaison functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee strategic enterprise initiatives; ensure successful implementation of organizational objectives.
- Lead special projects/programs and advise on various matters using independent judgment.
- Act as a central point of contact for strategic priorities; develop tactics, solutions, and program/project plans aligned to organizational goals.
- Support strategic planning and budget/resource needs for leadership.
- Provide Board Relations support for the COO/CAO (e.g., board material preparation, pre-briefing coordination, governance/material logistics, post-meeting action management).
- Monitor high-priority initiatives; identify obstacles/blocks and assess enterprise impacts.
- Support and coordinate recurring leadership meetings, training, off-sites, and internal communications to ensure alignment.
- Build relationships across the leadership team and the broader enterprise; serve as a thought partner and sounding board.
- Attend meetings on behalf of the COO/CAO as required.
- Provide decision support via data gathering and analysis; prioritize and assess requests/inquiries to determine next steps.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of functional experience demonstrating competency across multiple functional areas.
- 5+ years in a management-level capacity.
- Strong creative/analytical and problem-solving skills for complex problems.
- Ability to influence and drive results through informal authority; consultative mindset.
- Proven ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrated risk/issue management at a program level.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment; high trust and executive presence.
- Ability to support program planning, strategic partnerships, and continuous improvement.
Nice to Haves / Additional Notes
- Travel required domestically and internationally (~10%).
