About the role
Role Overview
Chief of Staff (Director), Product to support the SVP of Product as a strategic thought partner and proxy. You will scale the product leadership function by improving people systems, owning the external product narrative, and driving strategic bets that need a single accountable owner (e.g., AI enablement, special projects).
Responsibilities
- Run product leadership team rhythms: staff meetings, product reviews, all-teams, offsites (agenda architecture, pre-reads, decision capture, follow-through)
- Co-own people operations with HRBP: hiring, calibrations, performance, and talent reviews
- Surface and address org risks: detect structural issues like broken hiring funnels, attrition signals, and single points of failure; drive proactive solutions
- Partner on roadmap/operating processes with Technology Operations: roadmap planning process, prioritization decisions, annual OKRs and progress tracking
- Own headcount planning and budget management with Finance and HRBP: annual planning, quarterly reforecasts, hire prioritization tradeoffs
- Drive AI retooling and enablement: run internal AI masterclasses for leadership and embed AI-enabled processes across the function
- Curate external product narrative: all-hands, written updates, major external talks; act as speechwriter with PR/comms/brand
- Prepare executive briefings and leadership communications to reduce decision latency
- Run recurring org health pulse: engagement scores, regrettable attrition, leveling drift, manager effectiveness; escalate early signals
Requirements
- 10+ years in roles that built product credibility and strategic narrative (strategy with strong product partnership or prior Chief of Staff to a senior product/engineering executive at a high-growth tech company)
- Proven experience running people processes at scale (hiring, calibrations, leveling, talent reviews) in a fast-growing environment
- Exceptional written communication (ghostwriting, synthesizing narrative, drafting board-level materials)
- Strong pattern-matching for organizational dysfunction (e.g., broken hiring funnels, leadership gaps)
- Ability to operate with influence without formal authority across senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Design, Revenue, Finance, and HR
- Strong analytical foundation/business acumen: fluent in product metrics, financials, and growth analytics to evaluate tradeoffs
Nice-to-Haves
- Prior experience leading AI enablement or AI-related transformation within a product organization
- Experience with executive communications and external speaking/campaign narrative
